Extended Unit 64/65

As i based my ideas on a project on a already well known space craft i decided to compare the differences between the two and how i can make mine better on my next attempt. This is a short clip to demonstrate my first attempt using 3DS max to model and animate a scene:

My orginal idea was to follow this image as closely as possible as it goes into fine detail:

Though the amount of time it would take to morph and shape the polygons was not in my logical time constraints. Also it would take alot of trial and error to get the UW Map to fit correctly to the number of polygons. As well as trying to keep the polygon count low i would have to correctly configure Mental Ray for a more realstic effect. As much as i wanted to directly copy the image the best i could come up with due to my lack of experience was the basic shape or the ship such as the satallite dish and the bridge.

iPhone Icons

For Unit i had to create a collection of professional standard icons for the iphone. i choose 5 genres to cover; War, Humor, Fantasy, Transport and SCI-FI. These are the final renders of the icons: To show that they are of a professional standard i attempted to implment them onto an actual iphone. I took a picture of one at a local Hardware shop. this is the picture i took:
And this is the final version with the icons added:

My designs have been keep to my initial intentions by trying to keep the same style of background and their just been an outline to define what the picture is about to give it a more dynamic look instead of it been a full black image. The colour of the background is to help and try and determine the mood of the icon, example beening red for war can resemble blood, or hate. If i could make them again i would probably make them in flash and animate if they were rolled over.

Unit 64/65

Our project was to create a screensaver using a film or game commonly known by most of the population. So i chose to create a scene in with (In the star wars universe) the millenium falcon does a little maneuver then flew round the death star, shot at it and blew it up. due to time constraints i was only able to make the death star shatter rather than explode using a particle system.
During the modelling i tryed to keep the polycount as low as possible due to rendering time. i tryed to make the models look as clean and realistic as i could using a mental ray rendered to help with the textures but my desired effect didnt work.
If i had more time i would of spent more time trying to make a more realistic explosion and spent more time texturing to make the millenium falcon really stand out.
